Seminyak and Denpasar from Forseti Athena: A Neighbourhood Guide

Forseti Athena is a quiet house in Padangsambian, in the west of Denpasar, a short ride from the beaches of Seminyak. It sits between two sides of Bali: the beach towns of the west coast and the island's capital. This guide covers what lies around the house, how far each place is and how to move between them. Every distance below is a road distance by car. Travel time depends on traffic, so read the numbers as a measure of how near things are, not of how long the ride will take.

The beaches and the west-coast sunset

The nearest sand is Double Six Beach, about 3.3 km by road, with Seminyak Beach about 3.5 km away. Both are on Bali's west coast, which is why late afternoon is when people head for the sea: here the sun sets over the water. If you want to watch it from the beach, leave the house with time to spare and bring a sarong or a towel to sit on. Kuta Beach, about 7.6 km by road, is the long, busier stretch further south. The surf along this coast can be strong, so swim where lifeguards are on duty and follow their flags.

A temple, two shopping centres and a slower afternoon

Petitenget Temple, about 4.7 km by road, is a place of worship first and a sight second. Dress as you would for any temple in Bali, with a sarong and covered shoulders; keep a sarong in your bag if you think you might stop, and stay to the side if a ceremony is under way. For shopping, Trans Studio Mall Bali is about 3.6 km by road and Seminyak Village about 3.9 km. Both are useful on a wet afternoon in the rainy season, which runs roughly from November to March.

Denpasar and the airport

Denpasar is Bali's capital, and its centre is not far. Puputan Badung Square, the open square at the heart of the city, is about 8.4 km by road and a good starting point if you want to see everyday Denpasar rather than the resort coast. Ngurah Rai International Airport is about 10.6 km by road. When you plan your flights, keep in mind that check-in is from 14:00 and check-out is by 12:00. If you land early or leave late, ask us about early arrival or late departure. It depends on availability, so it helps to ask well before you travel.

Getting around: Gojek, Grab and traffic

The simplest way to get around is with the ride-hailing apps Gojek and Grab, which offer both cars and motorbike rides and show the fare before you confirm. Save the house address in the app before your first trip: Jl. Gn. Atena I No.26, Padangsambian Klod, Denpasar Barat. It makes the ride home from the beach after dark much simpler. Traffic can turn a short distance into a slow ride, so allow extra time when you have a sunset, a dinner reservation or a flight to catch. In the rainy season, or with shopping bags, a car is the more comfortable choice.

What is waiting at home

After a day out, the house offers a slower pace. The courtyard pool is framed by the building, with a wooden deck and loungers for a cool swim in the afternoon or a quiet hour with a book. The lounge, with deep sofas and art on the walls, is the place for reading, catching up on work or meeting friends.
